My First 'Newborn' Shoot

Sunday, February 17, 2013
I put it in quotes because technically speaking, at least to most newborn photographers, she's not a newborn.  She is exactly 1 month old.  Therefore a bit of a challenge for someone who has never photographed a newborn.  In spite of having the heat WAY higher than was comfortable for me and the whole bottle she drank right after she got here... she was determined to stay awake!  Of course, having her eyes WIDE open made for some CUTE photos.  Consequently, tho', all my 'plans' went right out the window.  I had to improvise.  But I learned a TON.  I'll be much more prepared for my next one in May.  For sure he will be no more than a week old! You can see the rest here.

52 Week Challenge

I love that this is my backyard.    Love when the clouds linger about the mountain tops.

Week 6 of my 52 week photo challenge.

She's 5 and lately, every time I point my camera at her, she gives me her cheesiest grin.  While I do love that cheesy grin, I wanted something a little different this time, so I asked her to be somewhat serious.  She did pretty good, I'd say.  What a beauty, messy hair and all!  :)

Week 5 of my 52 week photo challenge.

One day a co-worker brought in the most decadent treat I have ever had.  They were called Oreo Cookie Truffles.  OMGosh!  I was hooked immediately!  And I was told they were super EASY to make.  Fast forward a few months...  I'm at home getting ready for Superbowl Sunday.  We are invited to my sister's and I bravely volunteered to make the Oreo Cookie Truffles.

Thing is, I'm not much of a baker, per se...  I can make the occasional chocolate chip cookie or cake from a box.  I think my most 'difficult' accomplishment would have to be Pineapple Upside Down Cake.  And I have even made it from scratch.  So, I'm pretty proud of that.  But I don't make it that often.   I probably should have given more thought to what I'd bring before volunteering.

Here is the recipe that I opted to use.  There are tons of them out there... the difference being how to get the chocolate onto the cookie.  This recipe is from Kraft Recipes:

36 Oreo Cookies, finely crushed, divided
1 pkg (8oz) cream cheese
16 oz Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted (I can see as I am typing this that here is where I messed up, I got only a 12 oz pkg)

Reserve 1/4 c cookie crumbs.  Mix cream cheese and remaining cookie crumbs, then shape into 48 1" balls.  Dip in melted chocolate and place on waxed paper covered baking sheet.  Sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs.

There were a few challenges..  First of all, I did NOT get 48 balls out of the mixture.  I only got 38.  Guess I made them too big.  Secondly, I didn't have enough chocolate for the whopping 38 truffles I did manage to get.  I ended up sending my husband back out for another bag of chocolate.  (lesson learned - don't just skim over the recipe - REALLY read it)  Third, they just don't look at all like the pictures...  :(  Oh, I'm sure they taste just fine.  How can you miss with ingredients like Oreo cookies, cream cheese and chocolate?  But I really did want them to look pretty as well.  Oh well.  I guess practice does make perfect.  sigh...  One thing I must say, I'd heard it would be hard keeping the cookie mixture together while dipping into the chocolate.  I didn't find that to be a problem at all.  I dipped them one at a time, using a spoon to roll them around in the chocolate.  For the most part easy peasy.

Here's to next time! {if there is a next time.  :D}

On a recent drive to pick up lotto tickets.... Yes, I play pretty regularly.  Hey, you can't win if you haven't purchased a ticket.  Just sayin... lol

Anyway, I took my camera along to capture anything interesting we saw on the way.

Loved the look of this old building.  Decided to use a little texture to make it even more interesting.
